Guitar Queer-o

Alright, so while I was preparing for my trip to Russia, I played the newest South Park episode, Guitar Queer-o, and I liked it for a couple of reasons. I understand why this game is so popular and essentially a phenomenon. My little brother and his friends love to play this game, as do many of my friends and co-workers.

But I don’t like it, and I have a reason. It’s not the mere fact that I actually play the real guitar, but it’s that I also simultaneously suck at Guitar Hero. Granted, I haven’t taken the time to practice and play, but I’d rather not waste my time. Instead of playing Kansas’s Carry On My Wayward Son on the video game, I’ll learn it in real life. Also, the controls for guitar hero are essentially opposite how playing the real guitar are. The game has you press buttons that are separated horizontally, whereas with the guitar you play on strings that are positioned vertically from one another.

I’m not complaining, and this isn’t really a gripe, but I just wanted to show some love for South Park, which hit it on head again today with this episode. There’s a scene where Randy (Stan’s Dad) goes to play Guitar Hero, only to discover that he sucks at it, though he can play the real guitar (just like my own first-hand experiences).  In addition, I have in real life grabbed my guitar and played along with my brother and his friends while they were on the video game. Quite amusing.

Virtual House Flipping

So instead of studying, like I really NEED to be doing as I have multiple exams coming up in a few weeks, last night I got suckered into playing a game called “Build-A-Lot” which is a game where the player essentially builds houses and buildings in communities with the idea of increasing property values and cashflow. It kind of hits on the whole niche of house flipping and real estate development, which is something I’ve had an interest in for a long time seeing as my family has some land that could be developed in the near future. The game itself was straight forward and not very challenging, but it was still kind of fun.

As for house flipping and investment properties go, if anyone has real good advice for getting into this market with little capital to invest then please let me know. A few guys from school have purchased houses, but it usually is the result of going into business with a family member who is willing to front some of the cash. Anyways, it’s time to stop getting distracted with games and TV shows (maybe that writers strike will help with this problem) and get back to studying business…to much to do and so little time.
